Meet our Tutors

At Elevate we're lucky to have access to a great group of tutors who have all had experience of working the private sector. They understand the challenges that businesses face and ensure that courses deliver practical outputs that can be put into practice in the workplace. Read on to learn a bit more about our tutors.

David Winston Roberts

Courses: Introduction to leadership, Effective Management and Performance, Managing Teams, Leadership & Change.

In addition to delivering a range of leadership and management courses for the Elevate project David is responsible for all the professional training and development for the Bangor Management Centre. With a background in engineering David has held down various managerial posts within the sector which has included working at a strategic level on many international projects. He also ran his own management consultancy business, working in various global locations and in particular in India where he presented a number of papers to public and private sector management.

David has been involved in further education for over 10 years and has developed, co-ordinated and lectured a wide range of management and leadership courses up to Masters Degree level. 

 

Tom Perry

Course: Principles of Contract Law

Tom embarked on a teaching career at Bangor University after working for over ten years as a software developer and publisher. In addition to delivering courses for Elevate Tom is also a tutor on the Contract Law and Commercial Law modules in the Law School. He combines his practical experience of business together with his academic knowledge and teaching experience.

Will Boulton

Courses: HRM Essentials and Resourcing Talent

As well as working as a Higher Education business lecturer at Coleg Llandrillo Will also has strong links to The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development and has responsibility for both the Foundation and Intermediate suite of qualifications run at Coleg Llandrillo. He has vast experience of working within a National human resources role within the third sector as well as having a strong ethos of developing management and leadership qualities within the locality.

 

Michelle Boulton

Course: Business Communication Skills, Event Management

Michelle has many years’ experience as a Training Consultant for a large retail high street bank. Working in the private sector has exposed her to a variety of changing business initiatives and strategies over the last 17 years. Michelle has worked with a variety of stakeholders in areas such as sales, leadership and management curriculum, and talent management programmes. Michelle continues to work in learning and development and also teaches part time for Grwp Llandrillo Menai and Business Point. She has taught different business courses including recruitment and selection, performance management and management courses. She also teaches on both levels of the CIPD including the Diploma in Human Resource Management in her specialist subject of Coaching and Mentoring. 

 

Jan Walker

Courses: Stress Management and Resilience

As well as working as a part-time lecturer at Bangor University Jan runs her own Nutrition and Wellbeing Consultancy, specialising in Life Coaching, Personal Development and Mentoring. She has experience of working with a wide range of client groups including business professionals, young people and community groups and has had a number of professional appointments within the Mental Health Support field. Dr Sara Parry

Course: Integrated Marketing Communications

Sara is a Lecturer in Marketing at Bangor Business School, teaching Marketing Communications, and Advertising Strategy. Prior to joining the University Sara worked in sales and marketing for Rocco Forte Hotels and Marks & Spencer. During her PhD research she worked alongside a local small enterprise, assisting with market research, marketing planning, web marketing and exhibitions. Sara’s current research interests centre around small to medium-sized firms (SME) marketing. Other research interests include social marketing and consumer responses to marketing communications. She has published articles spanning these research areas in various journals and presented aspects of her research in several international academic conferences.

 

Kay Smith

Courses: Sustainable Procurement, Negotiation Skills, Risk Management

As well as working as a lecturer at Bangor University Kay teaches Chartered Institute Of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) professional procurement courses, along with being an examiner for national and international papers and the Welsh representative on Congress. Kay also has her own consultancy business and has experience of working with a wide range of organisations, professionals, and students particularly in the procurement field. Prior to her teaching career, Kay worked in NHS management for 25 years, her last post as Consortium Director for the four North Wales Trusts.

Dr Maria Hayes

Courses: Artist Facilitator, Professional Practice: Creative Industries

Maria is an experienced artist and art facilitator who has shown work in galleries and performed drawing at live events across the UK. Her work is held in private and public collections nationally and internationally. Alan Kelly

Courses: Social Media Marketing, Visual Marketing: Digital Images, MS Office Skills

As well as working as a lecturer at Bangor University’s School of Lifelong Learning Alan runs his own design and photography business. He has experience of working with a wide range of groups including business professionals, young people and community groups. " My courses are lively, fun and practical with a definite slant towards the real world rather than the theoretical. If you track through them you’ll emerge with a real grasp of social media marketing and the skills to put it to work for your business. The aim in our social media courses is to provide individuals with the tools, energy and enthusiasm to get their social media activities firing on all cylinders. Kim Bernard

Courses: Essential Coaching Skills, Building Capacity & Sharing Expertise

Kim is a well-qualified and experienced Personal/ Life, Organisation & Business Coach with a track record in facilitating real and lasting change for individuals, groups and organisations. An accredited member of the National Council of Psychotherapists and a Licensed Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming®, her most recent position being Coach Manager at the Welsh Government.
